“BEACON is a social innovation organization that operates at the intersection of human-centered design, social impact, and public policy”.

Its first product is a customizable privacy tool that allows small businesses to create and manage policies for their websites.

How can research inform & point to a solution?

Question: How can we best persuade customers to buy our first product?

Initial Research

In order to gain a deeper understanding of current features- and gaps- I used:

Content Inventory

SWOT analysis

Content audit

Outcome

Research revealed gaps which pointed to solutions. BEACON needed:

  • clear mission statement

  • improved content hierarchy

  • impactful copy

In order to persuade future customers, BEACON needed to re-vamp:

  • the landing page

  • the policy pages

  • the about us page

Policy Pages Re-Designs

Short and sweet. An overview in palatable terms.

In an effort to stay true to its personable, real-world tone, BEACON needed an approach that could make policy easy to understand.

In this re-design, BEACON is poised to engage with individuals consumers and businesses alike. Everyone should be able to understand policy, where consumer protections are still needed and how to take action.

The policy ecosystem

See a broader overview of data policies today. In some cases there is no active legislation to protect you - and prompts to advocate for these; in other cases BEACON has something in the works.

Home Page Re-Designs

As part of an upcoming product launch, BEACON’s landing page needed to persuade future customers of its brand credibility.

This could be achieved in three ways:

  • clarifying BEACON’s purpose

  • underscoring its positioning within the field

  • improved information hierarchy

Measuring Success

Metrics

Success for this project will be determined by several factors, including: page-views and engagement; sign-ups to the new product- launched in mid-April 2021.

Financial Impact

A successful redesign has the potential to have a big financial impact for BEACON - but only if visitors can be converted into customers. A successful re-design - one that emphasizes strong information architecture, solid UI and clear copy- both on the homepage and policy page will make this a reality.
